The Patriots played their last game of the year against Garfield on Friday November 21st. Birmingham was eliminated from the second round of the CIF Playoffs by a score of 49-28. Sterling Salguero ran for 185 yards and had one rushing TD.

The Bulldogs ripped the game away from the Patriots early in the first quarter scoring four unmatched touchdowns to give them a comfortable 28-0 lead. Birmingham tried to awake from this nightmare in the second quarter with a 36 yard TD pass from quarterback Oreste Simi to Travon Wilson and a 10 yard QB run which cut the lead to 28-12 after consecutively missed two point conversions. However, two minutes later the Bulldogs scored again off a 30 yard TD pass to increase their lead to 35-12, the halftime score.

The Patriots kept fighting in the third quarter but they were unable to score.  Garfield kept playing well and scored again with two minutes to go in the 3rd off a 5 yard rushing touchdown to add to their lead, 42-12. The Bulldogs picked up right where they left off as they scored yet another rushing TD in the beginning of the fourth quarter to put them up 49-12 with 8 minutes remaining in the game. Birmingham wouldn’t give up just yet as Sterling Salguero scored  an amazing 70 yard carry with 7 minutes left in the game to cut the deficit to 49-20, after a Sterling two point conversion. Five minutes later, Patriot’s QB Mendoza connected with receiver Tylin Scott for a 26 yard touchdown pass cutting the lead down to 49-28, after Mendoza’s two point conversion. However, this wasn’t enough and a little too late for Birmingham.

This loss marks the second consecutive playoff elimination for the Patriots and the end to the 2014 season. Birmingham ended the season with an overall 6-6 record. Salguero had an MVP-like season and he will be ready to lead the Patriots in the 2015 football season.
