Within the United States, 207,827 different fast-food restaurants can be found, and the number keeps growing each year. Raising Cane’s is one of the many fast-food chains that is often talked about and stands out as it has been many people’s favorite fast-food restaurant throughout its 28-year existence.
Originating in Louisiana, Raising Cane’s profit has grown over the years, demonstrating how Cane’s got famous in a short amount of time. From $1.5 billion in 2020 to $3.3 billion last June, people can get the sense this fast food’s total revenue rose by a huge amount due to the quality of their meals. Raising Cane’s business is also expected to reach the 10 billion dollar mark by the end of the decade, but do these facts prove that this fast food restaurant is one of the best when considering its food quality, cost, and serving size?
In the lives of students, fast food is a big factor due to the convenience of the short waiting times and the low costs. Most people learn about different sorts of fast food places through social media according to BCCHS senior Dominic Ludena.
Cane’s fast food chain lacks a variety of locations within the San Fernando Valley and this makes it difficult for students to locate restaurants nearby. Dominic states he wouldn’t recommend eating food from Cane’s since he believes that it’s just another chicken place. This comment seems to indicate that nothing special is coming out from Cane’s and that it has been overhyped for years. The popularity of Cane’s has dropped today, but it’s due to other fast food chains outranking them. Other chicken establishments like Wing-Stop, In-n-Out, and Chipotle are people’s first choice when deciding where to eat.
When gathering the opinions of other students within Birmingham High School, Joseph Ly (12) stated that he gets Cane’s often due to a group of friends who seem to enjoy Cane’s. Ly loves the toasted bread which Cane’s provides and he mentioned it’s the thing he enjoys most when eating at this fast food place. This restaurant is also efficient due to its low prices and Ly declared that the Cane’s in Northridge (near Tampa and Parthenia) has amazing customer service–which makes people want to return.
Other students also mentioned they enjoy it due to its close proximity–since some students live closer to certain restaurants than others, and this determines the food they acquire. Since Cane’s can be on the cheaper side, this allows students to order and choose this fast food outlet. This is important since not all students work or make a good amount of money to be spending on food that is pricey.
Even though Cane’s has good pricing and decent quality/quantity, this doesn’t drop the competition which lurks around every corner. When going out for a drive in the San Fernando Valley, fast food restaurants are all over the place which makes it tempting to stop at the first fast food locations that you first stumble upon.
Cane’s isn’t the restaurant that first pops into one’s head when determining what food to get on the go. Some student favorites were Wing-Stop, Chick-fil-A, In-n-Out, McDonald’s, etc. California is the number one state for having the most quick-service restaurants, and McDonald’s is the one place that made the most income in 2023 with Starbucks and Chick-fil-A being runners-up. Chick-fil-A had the number one sales per unit last year which shows that Cane’s isn’t on everyone’s mind as it probably had been in the previous years like 2020.
In conclusion, Raising Cane’s popularity has dropped, which resulted in its revenue dropping as well, since other fast food chains are now more successful. Even though Raising Cane’s is still a very popular quick-service restaurant, there are still better options that outrank them. Customers and popularity are what save these businesses since if a restaurant doesn’t have exposure to customers, their business will not succeed in the competitive food industry.
