Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, commonly known as Bad Bunny, is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and songwriter. Throughout his musical career he has released seven studio albums including X100pre, YHLQMDLG, El Último Tour del Mundo, Un Verano Sin Ti, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Mañana, and his most recent DtMF. DtmF, which is an acronym that stands for ’Debir Tirar Mas Fotos,’ or “I should have taken more photos.’’ This album with 17 tracks is a tribute to Puerto Rico and its culture. The song incorporates typical Puerto Rican beats, salsa, and reggaeton.
Bad Bunny, who was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, is deeply connected to his culture, and this can be seen throughout many of his songs, which celebrate Puerto Rican culture, and have undertones of activism for the problems the island faces. His inspiration for creating these lyrical masterpieces is rooted in his love and appreciation for his Puerto Rican heritage. While many of his powerful lyrics are dismissed, they contain multiple elements of Puerto Rican culture. This includes many political takes on Puerto Rico, including the gentrification, cultural erosion, and the nostalgia Puerto Rico brings to him. Nonetheless, it is important to recognize his new album ‘DtMF,’ as a powerful cultural ode that recognizes the problems occurring in P.R., and their impact.
