Eva Paez, a 15-year junior, attends Birmingham Community Charter High School. This is Eva’s first year at Birmingham after being at SOCES since 4th grade. Eva was born on November 9, 2009, and grew up in the same house all her life in the valley. She has a mother, father, brother, and grandparents down the street, as well as a dog named Carly, and she’s a pure-bred border collie.

Eva thought she wanted to be a veterinarian when she was younger, but realized that she had to see and operate on animals, and she realized she didn’t want to see them hurt. Eva did ballet folklorico for about two years. Eva’s mom couldn’t do her stage makeup, so Eva took it into her own hands to do her makeup. Eva asked her mom where her makeup bag, which was full of old makeup she never used, was and found it. Eva started doing her own makeup before her performances because her mom was unable to do her eyeliner. Eva was consistent with practicing her stage makeup, and eventually, her eyeliner was perfect. Eventually, Eva started growing out of ballet folklorico because she lost interest in dancing and lost her motivation to do so.

Some of Eva’s other hobbies are seashell collecting, volleyball, poetry, napping, and listening to music. Eva has been playing volleyball for about 4-5 years. She first started playing at the Reseda Recreation Center. Eva refused to play volleyball when her mom told her she was playing, but Eva had no choice, so her parents drove her, and eventually Eva grew to love it. Eva eventually transferred to Winnetka Recreation Center because the coaches at Reseda were unreliable. Eva gradually started getting better at volleyball and could overhand serve in her second year. Now Eva is at Tarzana Recreation Center, and she’s been there since her 3rd year of volleyball. She’s also in her last year of playing for rec centers due to the age-out rule.

Eva has been collecting shells since she was little. She loves walking on the beach, hearing the ocean waves while she’s collecting. Eva’s always been fascinated with shells, gemstones, and rocks. She loves listening to music; some of her favorite artists are The Maria’s, Cigarettes After Sex, Men I Trust, Lil Peep, The Smiths, The Neighborhood, Billie Eilish, and others.

Eva has a lot of different jobs in mind for the future, but her main goal is to be a makeup artist, possibly even for movie makeup in Hollywood. Eva’s always loved doing her makeup since she did ballet folklorico and realized it’s a strong passion of hers. Makeup has always been a therapy for Eva because she doesn’t like hanging out with a lot of people and likes to be on her own. So to escape reality, Eva started doing crazy makeup looks that turned out well and made her realize that she could do that for a living. Eva also has some other jobs in mind, like an interior decorator. Eva’s mom watches a lot of shows online about flipping houses, from looking basic and depressing to making the space livable and welcoming. Seeing how decorating can really change a place made Eva realize that she loves doing it. She was able to redo her room this summer, which made her realize she loves decorating. She made one of her dream rooms, and she decorated her room to her liking and built her own bed. Eva has many goals in life, and she hopes she chooses one of the paths that she hopes to go down.
