Jazmine Carter, Staff Writer

Jazmine Carter is a 17-year-old junior attending Birmingham Community Charter High School. She was born on August 7, 2007, in Mission Hills Hospital, California. She is mixed black and Mexican.  She dreams of getting her truck driving license this year, going to the Air Force, and being a nurse there but she also wants to make her family proud. She has one younger brother and he is a freshman attending Birmingham Charter as well. She wants to set a good example for him to look up to. She has lived in Pacoima her whole life. This is her first year at Birmingham Charter. Before attending Birmingham, she went to Cesar E. Chavez and she is an honors student.

She enjoys hanging out with friends/family and listening to music. Jazmine also enjoys taking late-night drives, looking at views, and going to the beach.  She has four Cane Corsos and one Rat Terrier. Her hobbies include music and late-night drives. Her favorite music is R&B and oldies. When she attended Cesar E. Chavez, she was on the softball team. But she also does boxing and she enjoys boxing. She boxes at Coronel Boxing and she has been doing it for two years. She likes watching baseball and she roots for the Dodgers. She got her driver’s license at the age of 17 even though it was a long process, she still stuck through it. Her favorite subject in school is math and she finds it easy and catches on to it fast. Her dream car is a Hellcat or a Scat Pack 392 Charger.

Her dad is a truck driver and he drives a 18-wheeler and has been a truck driver for many years. Her mom also just got her truck driver’s license (class A). Her dad was also in the Marines and was in Desert Storm for six months. During the summer, Jazmine goes to work with her dad and they usually start work between 1 a.m.-5 a.m. and 3 p.m.-8 p.m. She helps him load and unload sand or dry cement. Going to work with her dad has helped her get the experience of working and she enjoys working instead of being home doing nothing. She loves spending bonding time with her father and getting to know what work feels like. It helped her understand what work feels like and what school is preparing them for. Going to work with her dad made her want to follow behind him and become a truck driver.

Jazmine is focused on chasing her future goals and things that are going to help her succeed in her life. She enjoys being at Birmingham Charter. Jazmine plans to go to truck driving school once she turns 18. Therefore, she is looking forward to going to truck driving school in late August 2025, or September 2025. Once Jazmine is done with high school, she plans on going to the Force. She plans to be there for four years and become a nurse. Once her four years are done, she plans to retire her parents and travel. Jazmine knows that hard work and dedication are the key to success.
