Madigan Amaya, known as Madi, is a junior at Birmingham Community Charter High School. This is her 3rd year attending BCCHS. Madi was born on March 30, 2008. She is 17 years old. Madi was born in El Salvador. She moved to California when she was 2 years old. She moved with her mom and little brother to reunite with her grandma from her mom’s side and her dad. Both of her parents are from El Salvador. She only has one brother, his name is Douglas, and he is only 12 years old.  She attended Kittridge Elementary School, then, for middle school, she attended Madison Middle School. After she graduated from middle school, she decided to attend Birmingham Community Charter High School because she did some investigation on which school she felt was the best, and she saw that BCCHS was ranked #1 with a lot of school activities that sounded interesting, including a Health Career Pathway (Pre-Med Sci), so without any hesitation, she applied through the Lottery. In the middle of the last semester of the 8th grade, she found out that she got accepted to the best school in the San Fernando Valley.

Madi enjoys listening to music and attending concerts. She also likes to go out a lot with her family and her friends, and most importantly, spend time with her family and create new memories to rely on at all times whenever she feels down. Madi is a girl who will always listen to people’s advice and will try to make them work with her life. She is a type of girl who, no matter her situation in her state of mood, will always try her very best to keep a smile on her face, even if her world is falling apart.

Madi’s favorite colors are black, blue, white, and light pink. In her free time, she likes to watch YouTube. Let’s say she likes to watch her favorite YouTubers such as Kaed, Blesiv, and Thesesfoos; she is a LeLeLe girl.  She has a whole list of favorite singers, but she likes Anuel AA and Hades66 a lot. Her goal in life is to surpass her mother’s wishes and build on where she left off in life. Her family will forever hold a special spot in her heart, but most importantly, her mom and dad, because thanks to them, she wouldn’t be anything, and those sacrifices that her parents have had to give are everything that Madi and her brother have wanted and need. Another goal she wants to accomplish is to become a nurse and, most importantly, graduate from high school. Her favorite movies are The Gridiron Gang and Dangerous Minds. Her favorite TV show is called The Rookie. She has a small circle of friends; she doesn’t need many friends in life to be herself.

Madigan is always focusing on school and always trying to keep on track with her grades because she wants to make her parents proud of something both of them couldn’t finish. Whenever her mom shares the stories of her past, she always says that her trophy and degree are Madi’s. Her dream and plans are to become a nurse or pediatrician; she sees herself in the future working in a good hospital. A nurse is a general term for someone who has completed nursing education and passed a licensing exam to provide patient care. Nurses can work in many specialties, such as adult care, critical care, mental health, and more. Paediatrics is a specialty that a nurse can choose to pursue after becoming a registered nurse (RN). A pediatric nurse is a nurse who has undergone additional training and licensure to focus on the unique needs of young patients. But with one of those medical goals, she is happy because she loves to be around kids. After all, kids make her feel like a big sister because her little brother is not so little anymore. This year, she is completing her career pathway Pre Med Sci 2, so she will be able to get a medallion for completion of the CTE pathway during her graduation year 2027.  Something she likes about BCCHS is that there are so many chances for taking college credit and class opportunities in life, and that they will always be there for you when you need them.

Madi also likes that Birmingham has so many options to choose from, and they give you plenty of opportunities to change classes, sports, and clubs, and plan an awesome semester that you like. Something she dislikes is the dress code and the no-cell-phone policy. You may ask yourself why she doesn’t like it. Well, it’s because Madi thinks that the dress code is not a distraction to other students or the teachers. The dress code is something that she thinks is dumb because clothes don’t cause a distraction or draw attention to others. The cell phone policy is not fair because when students are done with their work, what will they do in class? Nothing right? So Madi thinks that students should be allowed to keep their phones in class with them and use it when they are done with their work.

Madi has been taking honors classes since 8th grade and has continued to take those honors classes up through her junior year. She is taking AP Spanish Lang this year and is taking H. AM. LIT., H. US History, and she is going to take Pre Calc or AP Calc next semester or next year. She is always praying to keep on maintaining those good steps and keeping up with her grades to make her grandpa happy, and she knows he is always looking and taking care of her from up there (heaven). Madi is a student who just wants to pursue her dreams to make herself, teachers, friends, and most importantly, make her FAMILY proud.
