Oscar Aguirre, Staff Writer

Oscar Aguirre is a 15-year-old sophomore attending Birmingham Community Charter High School. He was born on January 5, 2010, and has lived in the San Fernando Valley his whole life. Oscar is an only child but likes hanging out with his family and friends. This is his first year in journalism, but he is excited for what will come from it. He joined journalism this year because he enjoys sharing stories that matter. Writing has always been something he’s curious about, especially when it involves student life and school events. Oscar sees the newspaper as a platform where voices can be heard and can bring attention to important topics. He is looking forward to developing his writing style and improving with every story. For him, this year is about learning, improving, growing, and contributing to something meaningful.

Outside of school, Oscar keeps himself busy with many interests. One of them is playing golf. Oscar has been playing golf for a while now and enjoys the sport a lot. He thinks that it is a relaxing but competitive sport. It has taught him patience and focus. He also has hopes of joining the Birmingham golf team. When he is not on the golf course, you can find him in his room playing video games with his friends. Some games he likes to play include Fortnite and Rainbow Six Siege. Hanging out with friends is also another thing he likes to do, whether it is going out to the movies or just grabbing food. These moments give him a break from his busy schedule. He also has a pet bearded dragon. His favorite music is R&B and Hip Hop. Despite playing golf, he also likes watching other sports like basketball. His favorite team is the Los Angeles Lakers, and he enjoys going to the games. His favorite subject in school is English, and that is where he discovered his passion for writing.

Oscar has a few things he wants to do after high school. After graduation, he hopes to attend college where he wants to study law and continue to play golf. Becoming a lawyer has been a dream of his for some time because he wants a career where he can make a difference and use his skills to help others. He believes that his experience in Journalism will strengthen his communication skills, which are essential in the legal field. His interest in law comes from the desire to advocate for others and develop strong problem-solving skills. Some colleges he wants to attend are MIT, UCLA, and Stanford. He knows getting into these schools isn’t easy, but he is determined to get into a good school nonetheless. Golf is also another thing he wants to do in college.
