Royce Chinchilla, Photography Editor
Royce Chinchilla is a 16-year-old 11th-grade high school student with high hopes for the future. His goal is to try to understand himself and others mentally and especially emotionally. He had trouble understanding things in general while growing up, but he is currently trying to be the best version of himself and understand how he feels. Royce currently lives with his mother, stepfather, and baby brother; he occasionally visits his dad and stays there for a weekend. Sadly, Royce didn’t grow up with both parents in the same room, but this doesn’t stop him from seeing the good side of his childhood memories.
Royce has had a goal to see the person he loves ever since she moved somewhere else (he is still in contact with her). He also wants a main role in a film crew; these roles include: Cinematographer, Producer, and maybe even Director. Royce has a hidden thing for content creation. When he was little, he thought content creators were funny, and the activities they did were fun. Eventually, he hopes to start a channel with his friend group and have some fun. A personal thing he’d like to share is that his friend group is a mixture of both in-person and online, meaning that several people in the group are in different states. They’ve all known each other and stuck together for four years. Royce has big hopes to see them in person in the future.
Overall, Journalism sparked Royce’s interest because he had done it before in middle school. He originally wanted to attend Kennedy High School since his friends were going there. Royce had treated his friends like family ever since he met them in elementary school. He soon realized that Birmingham Charter High was a lot better in many different ways, though he didn’t have his friends around anymore. His first year at Birmingham was very rough on him; not his classes, but his loneliness. He was very honest about how he felt his first year. Losing his friends took a huge toll on him, and he had trouble making new ones. He wasn’t the best at making friends, so he held every person who was kind enough to be friends with him close. As time passed, he entered his sophomore year with all the emotional and moral support he needed to continue forward.
Royce likes activities, but can never find the right time to plan them or find the right people to do them with. He likes to go out with friends, play video games, draw (when he’s insanely bored), do calisthenics, and spend time with loved ones. When he’s indoors, he mostly talks to his friends on the phone, plays on his pc (personal computer), or plays on his VR headset. When Royce’s mother gets home, sometimes, he would bake or cook with her. Royce enjoyed cooking, but doesn’t do it much since he only has himself to cook for. He likes cooking for others just to see how they like it or if they have any comments.
