Yaritzi Garcia, Staff Writer

Yaritzi Garcia is a 15-year-old sophomore who attends Birmingham Community Charter High School. She was born on December 9, 2008, in Mission Hills Hospital. She has lived in Van Nuys her whole life. She is Latina-Hispanic. Her mom’s side is from Michoacan, Mexico, and her dad’s from Zacatecas, Mexico. She has four siblings, one sister, and three brothers. Her sister’s name is Maribel, while her brothers’ names are Jesus, Pedro, and Juan. She is an honors student who tends to be very social in positions of leadership.

She enjoys going on late-night walks and listening to music. Yaritzi only had one dog, but you can say she has over five cats. Her hobbies include music and hiking. Her favorite type of music genre is R&B. In her free time, she enjoys taking naps whenever possible. One thing she can’t stand is disrespectful people. Her favorite foods are sushi and pasta, mostly anything for that matter. Her goal in life is to surpass her mother’s wishes and build on where she left off in life. Her mother would forever hold a place in her heart, as she was there for her through thick and thin. Her favorite movies to watch are Moana and Tangled. Her favorite TV show is Lucifer. She only really hangs out with two friends. One is her cousin and the other is a sister in heart. They had been friends for almost 11 years. Their parents had been friends since high school and soon enough had them around the same time. To this day they are long-term friends, always and forever.

Yaritzi is always focusing on school and things that would help her succeed in life. She plans to be a pediatrician or a pediatric nurse, both of whom help kids through the stages as an infant and early adults. She is currently taking pre-med, which is a class that prepares students for medical school. Next year she plans to finish her career pathway and take pre-med 2. Something she likes about Birmingham is the class opportunities. Birmingham has so many options to choose from and they give you plenty of opportunities to change classes, sports, and clubs, and plan an awesome semester that you like.  Something she dislikes about Birmingham would be the dress code and phone policy. She plans to take more APs for her last few years at Birmingham. After high school, she plans to go to a community college because UC and USC are expensive. She went to Holmes Middle School for all three years. Yaritzi had switched to all honors classes in 8th grade and, she has continued in honors this year.
