Canelo Álvarez facing off against Caleb Plant was one of the most anticipated fights of 2021 in the brutal sport of boxing. These two fighters pushed their limits in a fight that gave fans the entertainment they most needed.

Fans had been anticipating this fight ever since Alvarez and Plant’s “scuffle” at a press conference on September 22, 2021, when words were exchanged and the altercation eventually got physical. Alvarez had shoved Plant after Plant had said something to him involving Canelo’s mom. Soon after he was shoved, Plant walked back up to Canelo and tried to hit him. Canelo dodged the hit and in true boxing fashion, countered the missed hit with an open hand hit to Plant’s face. The stakes were raised after this pressed conference.

Santos Saul Alvarez Barragan, also known as Canelo Alvarez, was born July 18, 1990, in Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco in Mexico. He stands at a height of 5’9 and weighs in at around 168 pounds. Canelo is the undisputed super middleweight champion, a very impressive achievement that he has earned throughout his undefeated 60-fight career. Though he has faced 2 draws and 1 loss, he is a formidable opponent. Canelo first started boxing when he was 13 years old and he has shown his very promising potential ever since.

Caleb Hunter Plant, nicknamed “sweet hands,” is an American boxer. He was born in Nashville on July 8, 1992. Plant started kickboxing when he was young and eventually started focusing more on boxing. He is 6’1 and weighs in at around 167 lbs. He is a very impressive fighter considering his undefeated record, although that record was changed after this fight. 

Both of these formidable fighters proved who was the better champion in the ring on November 6, 2021.

Despite the height difference, Canelo managed to land a devastating blow to Plant’s head in the 11th round and knocked him out. This TKO solidified Canelo Alvarez as a boxing champion and ruined Plant’s undefeated record.
