Birmingham’s Winter Band Concert took place in the Sally Field Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, December 2nd. The show featured performances from the award winning Drum-line, Marching Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, as well as some very talented soloists.

The concert featured songs from genres ranging from Classical to Jazz to R&B. The crowd, filled with family members and friends, cheered on the musicians. Mr. Sierer and his students worked for months to put the show together and their work paid off. There were many memorable performances, one of them being Earth Wind & Fire’s famous song September, performed by the Band and Drum-Line.

Jazz Band soloists such as Ozdell Santosis, lead alto, Erik Perez, second alto and Steve Murillo, lead alto, left a huge impression on the crowd. The musicians recieved several standing ovations. “We have not been represented in the All City Jazz Band for at least 15 years. This is a BIG feather in their caps, especially considering that they are sophomores and all underclassmen.” Sierer noted

The Birmingham Color Guard was also present, Sierer asked them to attend the concert and surprised them with a small gift: a single flower for each of them with a short speech about just how important his “daughters” were and how they contributed to the success of the band as a whole.

The night was filled with music, love, humor and sentiment. Overall, it was a night to remember.
