October 5, 2018
From love letters to crazy adventures, the book and movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has captured the inner essence of being in love. A young and in-love girl, Lara Jean, writes five letters to her past crushes and holds nothing back. However, her crushes never received them. Until one day, her whole world changes and the letters get out!
Here’s a sneak peak.
Although they say “the movie is never the same as the book,” the movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has not only grasped the attention of fellow readers of the book trilogy, but has touched a wide audience with snazzy humor, plot twists, and teen romance.
It cannot be denied that the movie did not include every scene from the book, but it goes to show that producers have made advancements when making movie adaptations of a book. According to the director, Susan Johnson, Netflix said “no matter how much we might have wanted it, the movie was never going to be able to fit all 358 of those pages onto the screen.” So instead of trying to compress every detail into the movie, Johnson decided to make the movie about the spirit and heart of the book. The movie adaptation did provide similar descriptions, characters, and plot. It even followed the book’s logical arrangement. Overall, the movie wasn’t exactly like the book, but it was never meant to be that way.
The success of the movie adaptation left fans wanting more. It has since received great ratings from Rotten Tomatoes (96% approval) and major attention from social media–from memes, fan quotes, and sentimental reviews.
The next question is…will there be a sequel to this heart-throbbing movie adaptation? Although it hasn’t been stated, movie critics believe the cliffhanger at the end of this movie leaves a huge clue to what’s coming in the sequel!
