Herik Flores Ruano, Staff Writer
Herik Flores Ruano was born on December 12, 2006, in Burbank, California. He is a senior attending Birmingham Community Charter High School (BCCHS) in Lake Balboa. Since Herik was a child, he always wanted to attend BCCHS–which he always saw while passing by for years and he always wanted to attend due to its size. He has been living and was raised in the San Fernando Valley, and he has no plans on leaving it any time soon since he has become comfortable with his home region and will live in it for a long time.
Herik has been very passionate about his understanding of seismology and the topic of earthquakes ever since he was very young. He felt his first-ever earthquake 10 years ago which was in 2014. Ever since, he has researched every past seismological event that occurred in California, mainly in Southern California and he even researched every fault line in the LA area. He would also ask people he knew/knows about the 1994 Northridge Earthquake–which his grandma told stories about when he started getting into the subject. His passion for seismology grew even more till he got access to early warning apps and early information software.
As of 2019, Herik had begun to pick up a new interest with cameras mainly Video/Film Cameras that he began to get fascinated with and this eventually grew into a passion for Cinematography and later filmmaking. Herik now owns five different cameras of multiple eras and types of styles with modern photo/video cameras, 35mm film cameras, and analog cameras from the early 2000s. With his passion and obsession with analog technology ranging from the 1970s to 2000s, Herik found his favorite music genre, Vaporwave, during his research of analog technology and styles.
For the upcoming years, Herik wants to study filmmaking more now that he is currently taking the second year of film class at BCCHS and he is now planning on making multiple short films to start his filmmaking and cinematography career. After completing high school, Herik plans to join and learn in the Film Program at Cal State Northridge (CSUN). Over the next few years, he plans to buy old VHS, film, and new digital cameras to convert for his career as well.
