Nirvana Sued Over Nevermind Album Artwork

I am pretty sure you either know, or have at least heard of, Nirvana once in your life. But if not, here is a little run down for you.

Nirvana was a very popular American rock band back in the 1980s-1990s. Even though it was a long time ago, they are still talked about or listened to pretty often. The band was founded by their lead singer and guitarist, Kurt Cobain, and bassist Krist Novoselic back in 1987. The band went through several drummers, but the most well-known were Chad Channing and Dave Grohl. The band was best known for there grunge rock music and their best selling album, Nevermind.

Nevermind was released on September 24, 1991. The album consisted of 12 songs with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” being the most popular.  However, any true fan would most likely say otherwise. The Nevermind cover featured a naked baby on the front cover, which is a very well-known album cover if you ask most people.

There have been lots of rumors flying around about the cover for Nevermind.  Rumors circulated about a possible lawsuit filed against Nirvana by “the baby” from the album cover.

The rumors were confirmed and there is, in fact, a lawsuit going on against the band members who were in Nirvana.

The baby from the famous 1991 album cover filed legal papers against Nirvana, Universal Music Group, Warner Records, music mogul David Geffen, the band members (even the late Kurt Cobain through his estate, including his widow Courtney Love), the photographer involved in the album photo shoot, and others.

The baby’s name from the cover is Spencer Elden and he is now 30 years old. He claims that the album cover has made him suffer life long damages due to the cover being “child pornography.”

Spencer is asking for at least $150,000 from each of the 15 defendants, including the living band members, the managers of Kurt Cobain’s estate, the photographer Kirk Weddle, and Cobain’s former wife, Courtney Love. As of now, this lawsuit is still an open case and we are still unsure about the circumstances of the claim.
