Art Sanchez, Staff Writer
Art Sanchez is a 16-year-old 11th-grade high school student who cares about others more than himself. His goal is simple but powerful: help as many people as he can, no matter who they are. It could be his close friends, his family, or even a stranger he just met that same day. If someone needs support, Art is the type to step in without asking for anything back.
He’s part of a club called MeChA, a group that focuses on supporting Latinx and Chicanx communities, families, and people through political action, education, and cultural pride. Art doesn’t join things just for fun; he joins because he wants to make a difference. Helping people isn’t something he turns on and off. It’s just how he lives.
Art plans to major in fire science and serve in the military, so that when he returns from service, he can join the firefighting forces. For him, being a hero isn’t about attention. It’s about being the one who runs toward danger when others can’t. Protecting people is something that feels natural to him, not forced. Growing up wasn’t always easy for Art, but he never let that stop him from caring about the people around him. He made sure his mom and siblings stayed safe and kept smiling even when things were tough. Instead of letting hardships harden him, they made him stronger and more understanding of others.
He wants to be someone people can rely on, someone who doesn’t turn away when things get tough. Whether in school, the community, or his future career, his goal is to protect, support, and make a difference wherever he can. He wants to make sure everyone figures out what they want to do with themselves.
