Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are set to release “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” on July 31, 2026, making this the fourth spider-man movie film starring Tom Holland and the 38th installment into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film represents a major turning point for the character following the events of “Spider-Man No Way Home” (2021).
The story picks up after Doctor Strange’s spell erased Peter Parker’s identity from the world. Now completely anonymous, Peter continues protecting New York City as Spider-Man while living a lonely, isolated life. Four years later, he faces increasing pressure from crime-fighting, along with a mysterious physical mutation affecting his spider abilities.
Unlike previous MCU Spider-Man films that focused on global threats and the multiverse, “Brand New Day” takes a more grounded, street-level approach. Peter investigates a series of crimes that lead to a larger and more dangerous threat within New York’s criminal underworld. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. However, both charters no longer remember Peter, creating emotional tension as he watches their lives move on without him. The film also introduces a new dynamic, as MJ is shown to have a different love interest.
The cast includes several major Marvel characters, such as Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (The Hulk), and Michael Mando as Scorpion. Additional villains, such as Tombstone from “Brand New Day” and The Hand from “Daredevil Born Again,” will also play key roles in this film. This movie will have a darker and more grounded tone. One of the film’s most unique elements is the evolution of Spider-Man’s powers. Peter begins to develop organic webbing and other physical changes, hinting at a mutation that could challenge both his identity and his control over his abilities.
Production for the film began in August 2025, with filming taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, and at Pinewood Studios in England. The project is part of Phase Six of the MCU and is intended to launch a new chapter in Spider-Man’s story. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is being described by its creators as a “fresh start” for the character, returning him to his roots as a solo hero dealing with real-life struggles while protecting his city. With a stronger focus on personal challenges, identity, and responsibility, the film aims to redefine Spider-Man for a new era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
