Birmingham’s play production is preparing its newest play, “She Kills Monsters.” This play will be at the Sally Fields Performing Arts Center from Thursday, November 1,3, through Sunday, November 16, 2025. The lead roles of the play will switch depending on what day you attend. This play is about a character named Agnes who is going to be played by both Melanie Flores and Saori Araujo. Agnes is plunged into a world of monsters and has to save her sister, Tilly, and her soul, who is being played by Chloe Vasquez and Isabella Piscione.

Play Pro has been working on this for over two months, and as stressful as it may seem, the cast have been bonding together and working hard while still being able to have fun. Even when having to stay after school and practice for long hours, Melanie Flores (12) explained, “Everyone is like a family, because you’re here until six p.m. most of the time, and it’s a really bonding experience.” The cast gets along very well and they share many exciting experiences and are there for each other when facing challenges.
The cast has to focus on many things at once, such as memorizing their dialogue, choreography, and their exact placements. This can be very stressful and put a lot of pressure on the cast, especially right before getting on stage. But each actor has their own way to compose their thoughts and regain self-control.
The second main lead, Isabella Pisicione, told us how she calms herself before going on stage. She said, “Usually what I like to do is listen to music on my own or try to remember lyrics to songs, which usually helps me calm down, and I really like hugging my friends before going on stage.”
Not only do the actors have stressful moments, but the tech crew also faces challenges. Audrey Natividad (12) is one of the crew members for tech, and during her interview, she said, “The most difficult thing with the tech equipment during the play is getting the right timing to match the exact scene.”
One of the cast members, Ashley Flores, said, “Theater is a place where you can be yourself without feeling judged.” She mentioned that working with the cast helped her gain confidence because she can be more expressive, and she knows that her peers will always be there to support her.
Chloe Vasquez (11) mentioned how she stopped doing theater in middle school, but then was motivated to rejoin in high school, and her experience in Birmingham’s Play Production class has been a very exciting journey. She enjoys encouraging everybody to try things out in high school, and Play Pro could be a great choice for a welcoming environment, and for people wanting to make strong connections.
Overall, the cast for the upcoming play, “She Kills Monsters,” seems to be getting along great and having a fun time working together. They all encourage and support each other. Play Pro has become an environment that is such a joyful place where students can make many memories with friends and be expressive. This first show will be on Thursday, November 13, at 5 p.m. The last show is on Sunday, November 16, at 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold online at bit.ly/bcchstix and at the box office. We hope you support Play Pro on their newest play and that you feel encouraged to join this fun elective.
