The festival began in October 1999. Originally, the festival started as a protest against Ticketmaster. In 1993, the iconic 90s grunge band “Pearl Jam” didn’t like how much Ticketmaster was charging their fans, which led them to cancel their tour and refuse to play in any venues that weren’t alternative. So their promoters founded the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, for them to perform, which ended up becoming a huge success. This led the company, “Goldenvoice,” to add more artists to perform and turn it into a festival, making Coachella what it is today.
The headliners of 2026 Coachella included Sabrina Carpenter, who performed both Fridays, Justin Bieber, who performed both Saturdays, and closing both Sundays was Karol G.
This year’s Coachella definitely had its iconic moments. On Weekend 2, Sabrina Carpenter surprised fans by bringing out none other than Madonna. Justin Bieber’s performance was very nostalgic for many fans since he performed a lot of his older hits. And finally, Karol G made history at the festival by being the first Latina to ever headline.
