The Met Gala is an annual fashion charity event that raises money for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event is organized by the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour. This event normally takes place on the first Monday of May. It is an invitation-only event attended by celebrities and fashion designers and includes well-known individuals who host. Each year the Met Gala has different themes that relate to fashion, history, and culture. The theme for 2025 will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. 

On Monday, May 5th, the hosts will include Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky and LeBron James. The dress code will be “Tailored for You,” and it will lean towards suits and menswear.

Each year, guests follow a “no phone policy” once they enter the gala. The event also doesn’t allow the use of social media to let guests enjoy the event more fully. Other rules include no smoking, no selfies, a seating chart, no one under 18, and outfits must be approved by Anna Wintour in advance. If guests break these rules, they have the possibility of being banned from attending again. These rules have been added and updated over time. 

Considering that it’s the most anticipated night for designers to show their creations, it is quite an intensive show that takes months of planning, from the long guest list to choosing a specific theme, and more. It’s a chance for celebrities to express themselves within their style, even if that includes the questionable or amazing outfits that they choose to wear. Celebrities look forward to formal dinners, touring the exhibition, and seeing exclusive performances. Although the Met Gala was founded in 1948, it still holds immense influence on the fashion world to this day.
