AI has been getting more and more powerful every day. People have speculated that AI can take over the world. Can this really be possible, or are people just overreacting?
This is the speculation going around the world: while some people love AI, some people see it as a threat. How can we stop AI from growing and keep it how it is right now? That is a question most people ask, although we can’t really do anything about it. AI continues to grow on its own.
In my opinion, AI is not all that bad. You can use AI when you need help with specific things that you don’t want to ask people, and it always has a specific and smart answer for your needs and questions. What does it really mean when something that doesn’t yet exist can have a stronger brain and thinking power than humans?
Some people see it as not that big a deal, and for people like me, I think AI is growing for the better. Yes, it isn’t as beneficial for teachers and professors, knowing their students can cheat on quizzes, classwork, etc., but it is beneficial for other important things. Artificial Intelligence can help you edit photos, it can help you with your problems, and you can even have an online AI therapist; anything that you need, AI is there to help.
Unfortunately, there is a downside to Artificial Intelligence expanding. What if there were an AI designed to take care of human jobs like judges, politicians, doctors, and teachers? Society would become much less lifeless, and things could really change. This would be bad because imagine a robot performing surgery on you, you have no idea how it can come out. I think AI may even predict the future at one point. This could be bad and lead to people panicking, knowing what is going to happen in the future.
How are people reacting to it? The general public opinion is more concerned than excited about the increased use of Artificial Intelligence. There are some things in the future that Artificial Intelligence may be able to do, and people are concerned. Imagine if Artificial Intelligence could diagnose people with specific medical issues. This concept can result in bad and good things, because at any given moment, Artificial Intelligence can mess up, and next thing you know, you are diagnosed with something totally different than what you actually have.
Another thing you can worry about is if AI were a therapist, and starts to tell you uncomfortable truths. For example, if it tried to predict your future, and you are left with the thought that a robot knows your whole future. Or imagine if AI could determine how you spend your life. For example, AI could choose what you do, what your job is, when you will die, or anything else you do in the future.
What are people going to do about this if they see it as a problem? There is speculation circulating that the government is maintaining oversight of AI, just in case anything unfortunate were to occur. Also, researchers are working on making AI more human-like so that AI doesn’t get more intelligent than humans. There are also people trying to just adapt to it, and people are encouraging employees to use AI at their jobs for better reasons other than cheating.
This is so employees can come up with ideas and get help in a positive way. Ye,t some people resist adapting to AI, and this can cause cultural pushback. For example, AI can provoke this resistance because AI challenges ideas such as identity, work, and creativity. Some people see AI as soulless or exploitative. People get upset that their work can get scraped into datasets without consent. I agree that this is bad, knowing that AI can take anything of yours that was published on the internet. People may see it as a copyright violation, but what can be done about this? AI can also push back human values, for example, as unemployment due to AI taking over jobs is a possibility. Identity crisis is another human value that AI can push back. For example, people are protesting “humans first,” so that AI doesn’t take over their jobs.
Loss of employment can make people nervous. In my opinion, it is a very low possibility of these events happening. It is possible for AI to keep growing, but I don’t believe it can grow to be more powerful than humans.
